Quick Little Pumpkin Flower

Card/Paper: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White
Ink: Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie
Stamps: Sincere Salutations, Canvas
Other: Black Brad
Card Size: 15cm x 10.5cm (approx 4" x 6")

Method:

Just a simple card as a base for the flower - which is made using the Stampin' Up! Scallop Circle and Boho Blossoms Punches. The leaves were made using the Five Petal Flower punch. I cut the petals apart, and reassembled them to make sprays of leaves. The flower is really easy to make also, and I'll do a few photos for another posting if anyone is interested to see.

ETA: The tutorial for the flower is now here.

More Birthday Cake

Card/Paper: Not Quite Navy, Kraft, Whisper white
Ink: Not Quite Navy, Creamy Caramel, Summer Sun, Pumpkin Pie
Stamps: Big Bold Birthday
Other: Linen Thread, Antique Brass Eylets
Card Size: 15cm x 10.5cm (approx 4" x 6")

I had another male card to make as well as hubby's, so to save time, I used the same card and stamp sets as yesterday's card, but made a simpler one. I think I like this one better in fact. This time I stamped all the elements of the cake individually and cut them out, stuck them together and mounted the finished cake with foam pads to pop it up a little. The front two candles are inserted into the cake through little slits cut with a knife. Even with the cutting out, this was a pretty quick card to make - well, by my standards anyway!

Well, Emma's converted me to liking Kraft! I really like it with Not Quite Navy for a masculine colour combination. This is hubby's birthday card - and I even made him a real cake as well. Shame he's away this week, and we're finishing it up without him!

Flower Pot Card Tutorial

At last, here is the promised tutorial on the flower pot from this post! The concept for the pot is not mine - I've seen it in many places on the internet. However, I wanted more room to stick on the flowers, and a shorter pot, so designed my own size and shapes to create it.

Click on any picture to get a closer look.

Cut a rectangle of card measuring 21cm x 10.5cm. Score at 8.5cm from one end and 4cm from the other.

Fold up on the 8.5cm score line. Measure in 1.5cm from each side along the crease. Draw a line from those points to the top corners of the flap as shown.

Cut along both of the lines to shape the sides of the pot. Leave the card folded whilst you do this.

Unfold the card, and place the embossing folder so that the edge of the pattern runs along the 8.5cm score line, and the folder covers over the front of the pot (the piece with the 4cm flap on it).

This is the finished embossing - as you can see, it extends over the 4cm score line. Scallop the edge of the 4cm flap as shown.

Turn the card over so that the outside of the pot is facing downwards, and put a narrow strip of glue along the two tapered sides. This must be very narrow, otherwise the inner card will not be able to slide in. If you are using tape, it needs to be narrower than 0.5cm to leave enough room. Fold up and stick together.

Apply glue along the underside of the 4cm flap as shown.

Fold over and press down.

Set a pair of compasses at 5cm to draw a 10cm diameter circle. Make sure that you press the point of the compass so that it clearly makes a mark in the centre of the circle.

Using a ruler draw a line through the mark in the center to divide the circle in half.

If you don't have any compasses or don't like using them, here is a template for the two half circles. Click on the image to enlarge it, and then right click on the enlarged image and save it to your computer. Then print out from this saved image, and it should print out correctly at a 10cm diameter.

Here are the two half circles cut out, plus a rectangle of card for the message insert. This measures 11cm x 6.5 cm. If you prefer, you can use a corner rounder to round off the two corners that will go inside the pot - this will help it to slide in more easily.

Insert the message rectangle into the pot all the way until the end of it is at the bottom of the pot. Make sure it is sitting straight. Then apply glue as shown.

Stick one of the semi circles over the glued portion of the message insert.

Turn the whole thing over and apply glue over the back of the insert and semi-circle.

Stick the other semi-circle on top as shown.

Here are the two completed elements of the pot ready for decorating with flowers. To make sure that the flowers fit together nicely when the pot is 'closed', make the arrangement with the insert placed into the pot - make sure that you don't glue anything over the join between pot and top though!

I have had some requests for how to make the flowers, and am working on the tutorial for that if you're interested to come back for it. ETA: The flower tutorial can be found here.

In the meantime, here's a reminder of what the two decorated parts look like -

Blue Leafy Vine Thank You Card

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Brocade Blue, Night of Navy, Whisper White
Ink: Brocade Blue
Stamps: Fresh Cuts
Other: Pearl from the Pretties Kit
Card Size: 15cm x 10.5cm (approx 4" x 6")

Method:

This is a little card I made to send to the newest member of my team, the lovely Emma.

The flower is made using two layers of the scallop circle punch, plus one of the shapes from the Boho Blossoms Punch. The layers were sponged with brocade blue before assembling, and the flower finished off with a large pearl from the Pretties Kit. The background was scored and then also sponged with brocade blue to highlight the score lines. I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to create the leafy vine, and to position the greeting. The Night of Navy card has been edged with the scallop edge punch. All finished with some stitching lines drawn in using a matching Brocade Blue marker.

This is the other make and take card from our last stamper's ten meeting. The image was stamped using Basic Grey ink, and then watercoloured using the markers scribbled onto a plastic sheet, and an aquabrush. The sky was coloured using blue chalk. The brads are fixed on to a tab punched shape. The image is matted onto a chocolate chip square, and then mounted onto the designer paper with foam pads. The right hand edge of the card base has five score lines at 1/4" spacing, which have been sponged with Chocolate Chip for an extra bit of definition.

This is the last of the cards from my Glitter Pot class last Saturday. We used the Woodware Fingerguard trimmer with the perforating blade to do this.

Pot of Flowers

Ingredients:

Card/Paper: Bazzill Sienna, Aspen, Fern, Sugar Cookie, My Mind's Eye Pretty Please Full of Flowers and Blossoms plus cream card for the inside.
Ink: Versacolour Rose Red
Other: Cuttlebug embossing folder Forest Branches, Martha Stewart border punch Embossed Scallop, Flower and leaf punches all Woodware: Daisy Punches Big and Super, Super Multi Christmas Flower punch, Large and Super Birch Leaf punches
Card Size: 15cm x 15cm (approx 6" x 6")

I taught my first class at the Glitter Pot on Saturday. Thanks to the lovely group of ladies who attended, my nerves melted away very quickly, and I really enjoyed it!

This is the card that we made in the morning. I have seen this type of card all over the internet, but have designed my own template sizing for the pot, and design of top to put the flowers on - I wanted to be able to fit more on! Also, I thought it would be handy for it to fit inside a 6" x 6" box envelope.

As you can see, some of the flowers are attached to the pot, and some on the slide out part.

Here you can see the back of the pot, which shows the top that I designed. It's very simple to do - I'll put up the templates tomorrow.

ETA: Of course, I didn't get round to the template as soon as I'd hoped! But it's up now, and you'll find it here. I've also put up instructions on how to make the flowers here.
